How much does DealGenius cost?

DealGenius is always 100% free to our fellow Canadian shoppers.


Does DealGenius sell products? Can I pick up an item at DealGenius?

DealGenius helps you shop by aggregating and showcasing deals available to Canadians along with full pricing information and recommendations. DealGenius does not physically carry inventory, nor does it sell any items directly. To complete the purchase of an item you find on DealGenius, click "Go to store" and visit the Merchant site directly.


Does the price of items from the US include duties and brokerage fees?

The prices you see on DealGenius, for items that are shipped from the US, include DealGenius’s best estimate of shipping, duties, and brokerage, all in Canadian dollars. You should always check with the Retailer you purchase with to determine the exact Duties, Shipping and Brokerage fees. Sales tax is not included at this point in time but will be based on the province you live in. Due to fluctuating exchange rates, the price you actually pay at the time of purchase might be slightly different than the quoted price.


How much is shopping?

DealGenius works with Retailers to provide the most accurate shipping estimates possible. This information is shown in Canadian dollars when it is available. Note that you should always confirm final shipping costs with the Merchant, as shipping can vary depending on your location and sometimes retailers change their shipping rates without telling us. If shipping is unknown, then you’ll have to check with the Merchant.


Why is the pricing on the site different than the pricing at the merchant?

DealGenius receives data from the Merchant and updates it through the system. This information may take a few hours to propagate through our systems, and sometimes the Merchants update the prices on their site, before they send us an update, which may cause a pricing differencebetween our site and the Merchant sites. If you do see a pricing error, please let us know using our feedback buttons. Our operations team will investigate with the Merchant.


How does Deal Rating work?

DealGenius uses a patent pending system called Deal Rank to allow you to see, at a glance, just how good a deal is. Because price is not the only factor to consider when making at a purchase, deal ranking considers market condition, Merchant store policies (such as return policies, etc), and a variety of other factors to determine what a good deal is.


How is the % and $ off calculated?

DealGenius uses the Merchant’s regular price to determine what the % and $ off for your benefit. You can refer to the pricing history chart to determine if it’s a good time to buy or not.


What about privacy?

Respecting the privacy of our users is a priority here at DealGenius. We do not share any personally identifiable information with third parties. For more details on how we protect your privacy, please see the Privacy Policy.


How do I control the notifications and emails that I receive?

To subscribe or unsubscribe from DealGenius notifications, edit your user profile and check or uncheck the appropriate notification preference. You can access this page under your user image on the "My DealGenius" page.


I did not receive my activation email, what can I do?


Sometime emails take a few minutes to arrive. If you don't see the activation email after 5 minutes, check the junk mail folder and mark the mail as not-junk. If you still cannot find your activation email, send an email to help@dealgenius.com and we'll help you out.


I cannot find what I want on DealGenius, what can I do?


If you search for something and cannot find it in the system, you can try searching again with fewer or different keywords.


How come products from a certain store cannot be found?

DealGenius is always aiming to include all products available to Canadians and we are actively expanding our coverage. If your favourite store is not listed, let us know by leaving feedback and we'll get to work right away.

DealGenius Recommendations


What are Deal Genius recommendations?

With its patent pending Deal Rank system, DealGenius analyzes market trends and historical data to offer buying recommendations to Canadians. Know when to buy, when to wait, what to watch-out for, and even be warned when a deal seems too good to be true.


How should I use the price history graphs?

Price history is one of the factors in forming a recommendation, and is helpful to those savvy shoppers who want to do their own analysis. DealGenius shows the highest and lowest prices for an item, as well as the number of sellers offering the product. To maintain high data integrity, only information from verified deals will be included on this display.


Shopping Profile and Price Alerts


How do I build or modify my shopping profile?

To build or modify your shopping profile, click on the link on the left side of the DealGenius.ca home page after signing in. You can then select categories that interest you, so DealGenius can build the proper recommendations for you. Your recommended deals will be shown on your home page and sent to you via email each week.


What is a Price Alert?

Price alert is a service that sends real-time notifications to you when a product drops below the target price you specified. Set price alerts for your favourite products, and never miss deals again.


How often do I get alerted?

A price alert is sent the instant your product drops below the target price. Price alerts are only sent once for a specific item, and will become inactive once sent. If you want to receive more price alerts for the same item, you can reactivate the alert by setting a new target price.


Does the target price include fees such as shipping?

Yes, the target price that you set is inclusive of shipping, duties, brokerage, and exchange fees.


How do I view, change or cancel my price alerts?

Your active and inactive price alerts are displayed in your "My DealGenius" page, as well as the DealGenius home page after signing in. You will be able to make changes such as modifying target prices, removing alerts, or removing items.


Cross-Border Shopping


How does DealGenius make cross-border shopping easier for Canadians?

DealGenius makes cross-border shopping easy by showing deals available to Canadians, regardless of whether it is shipped from the US or Canada. Items shipped from the US will have a US flag icon next to the price. All prices are in Canadian dollars with an estimate of duties, brokerage and available shipping cost included. You should always check with the cross-border retailer before purchase to get the final pricing. Due to fluctuating exchange rate and Merchant policies, it is recommended to confirm final costs with the Merchant before purchasing.


Shopping with Your Friends


Can I share deals or recommendations with my friends?

You can share almost anything in DealGenius with your friends, including deals, product recommendations, your DealGenius lists and more. In addition, you can send personal messages or leave a comment for the community at large.


How do I invite friends?

To invite a friend to DealGenius, go to your profile page and click on the “invite friends” button on the bottom left side of the page.


How do I remove a friend?

To remove a friend from DealGenius, go to your profile page and hover over the image of the friend you want to remove. Click on the "X" that appears and your friend will be removed.
